Diet and exercise sometimes do little to eliminate unwanted fat and loose skin in the abdominal area. If you are bothered by these appearance problems, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) may be a good choice for you. Abdominoplasty is performed to rid a person of excess skin and to tighten the weak abdominal wall muscles. This is frequently present in women following childbirth.
The procedure can be done as an outpatient or inpatient and sometimes can be done as a mini-abdominoplasty, which works mainly on the lower portion of the abdomen. Recovery period is anywhere from 7-14 days, depending on the extent of the procedure and the tightening of the abdominal wall musculature. Liposuction can also be performed at the time of this surgery.
Dr. Medalie typically performs abdominoplasty as an outpatient procedure.

Now among the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures, liposuction (also known as "lipoplasty" or "suction lipectomy") sculpts the body by removing undesirable fat from areas around the thighs, knees, buttocks, waist, hips, abdomen, chin, cheeks, neck and upper arms.
Liposuction is not a substitute for a healthy diet and exercise, but the procedure can eliminate areas of fat that are unresponsive to typical weight-loss methods, and improve body contour.
Dr. Medalie typically performs liposuction as an outpatient procedure. He specializes in body sculpting, “tumescent liposuction”, “super-wet liposuction” and ultrasonic liposuction..

Post Bariatric
(Weight Loss Surgery) |
Morbidly obese patients are finding bariatric surgery the preferred treatment option. More than 100,000 patients had bariatric surgery in 2003. Patients who undergo bariatric surgery typically lose an excess of 100 pounds, but most patients experience the unpleasant fact that as the fat rapidly dissolves, the excess skin mostly stays. Plastic surgeons have begun to offer comprehensive treatment plans for these post weight loss patients, including tightening of the skin under the arms, breast lifts, panniculectomy (removal of excess abdominal skin) and medial and lateral thigh lifts. Some of these procedures are covered by insurance and can be as life-changing as the initial bypass operation. Dr. Medalie has extensive experience with post bypass body contouring and welcomes patient consultations.

Brachioplasty is surgically recontouring the arms. The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia. Excessive skin is removed, sometimes in conjunction with a liposuction procedure to remove fat from the arms. For removal of large amounts of skin, an incision is required that runs from near the elbow to the armpit. The incision is placed in the most inconspicuous location (inner arm toward the back), but some scarring will always be visible. More moderate skin removal is sometimes possible with a smaller incision which is limited to the armpit area to try to keep the scar better hidden.

Labiaplasty
(Labia Reduction) |

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces and/or reshapes the labia minora (labia minora reduction) - the skin surrounding the vaginal opening. In most women, the labia minora are seen only when the legs are separated. However in some women, large labia minora are visible when the legs are not apart, or are barely separated, causing embarrassment and self-consciousness. Enlarged labia may also be noticeable in tight fitting pants, and can cause discomfort in clothes, during intercourse, or with exercise. Enlarged labia are usually congenital but may be increased from hormonal changes or childbirth.
Labiaplasty is a procedure to correct this problem. Dr. Medalie utilizes a newly described technique of labia minora reduction (labiaplasty) which preserves the contour, color, and anatomy of the labia minora edge. The excess labium is excised in a "V" manner and the upper and lower edges are sutured together. Therefore, the only suture line visible on the edge is a small transverse line instead of a long longitudinal vertical suture line. This significantly decreases the discomfort and visibility of the procedure.
Dr.
Medalie also performs other female genital surgery including labia majora remodeling, vaginal rejuvenation or vaginaplasty,

Metoidioplasty
In this operation, the surrounding skin of the clitoris is removed and it is released from the pubis to give the appearance of more length. The glands will appear circumcised in most patients. The final result is a normal appearing, but very small, penis. Actual result will depend on various factors as described below.
The outcome is largely dependent upon how much enlargement of the clitoris has occurred with Testosterone. The best results from the metoidioplasty are in patients who are near their ideal body weight and do not have an overhanging mons pubis. In most patients, removal of some skin and liposuction of the fat of the mons will also improve the result. The principal advantage of the metoidioplasty is that it is noninvasive, maintains the sensitivity of the clitoris, and does not create apparent surgical scars. Furthermore, it does not prevent future genital surgery from being done at a later time should one decide. The penis will not, however, appear adult in size, and it is not large enough for vaginal intercourse. Dr. Medalie does not perform urethral lengthening with metoidioplasty.
Dr. Medalie typically performs simple metoidioplasty as an outpatient procedure.
If a patient desires scrotal construction from the labia majora and insertion of testicular implants, this procedure can be done simultaneously with the non-urethral metoidioplasty. |
